Team 973 goes undefeated at Quaker Classic
Captures first place honors with a perfect 8-0 record

November 23, 2005 - The University of Virginia Mock Trial program continued its early season success this past weekend, with team 973 winning first place at the 2005 Quaker Classic Invitational with an undefeated record of 8-0.

The Quaker was held at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business on November 18th and 19th. Forty-two teams were in attendance from all over the country. Riding high after its top-ten finish at GAMTI, team 973 was excited to compete again. In its first round, 973 went defense against UNC 527. Following a strong finish there, 973 managed to win two close rounds against Bob Jones 634 and George Washington 757, winning all four ballots in those two rounds by a total of 12 points. 973 faced off against Michigan 524, also 6-0 after the first three rounds of competition, to cement the tournament championship.

973's strong team finish was marked by outstanding individual performances. Ryann Burke received 18 ranks as a prosecution witness, despite playing different witnesses in team 973's two prosecution rounds. Cary Mayberger won an Outstanding Attorney award (19 ranks on the prosecution), as well as Kevin Richards (19 ranks on the defense).

973 looks forward to rejoining team 972 for Columbia's Big Apple Invitational Tournament in January. smrtovnice
