Wins 7 ballots in first west-coast appearance
January 16, 2006 - Team 972 followed up its top-ten performance at Rhodes last semester by going 7-1-0 at UCLAs invitational tournament. In its first trip to the west coast, UVa took second place honors as the only team to win seven ballots.
UVa used its second-place seeding to challenge defending national champions UCLA in a long-anticipated east-coast vs. west-coast match-up. The round included three All-American attorneys and an array of excellent witnesses on both sides and resulted in a close split as each team walked away with a single ballot.
Team 972 went on to win all of its remaining ballots in rounds against Weber State, EKU, and USC. Overall, team 972 finished with a point differential of +64 and a combined strength of 19.
UVa mock trial looks forward to a massive climate change next week, when both team 972 and team 973 head to New York City for the Columbia University Big Apple Invitational.
