Two top-ten finishes for UVa at CUBAIT
Team 972 and 973 both trophy at competitive invitational

January 24, 2006 - For the second time this year, UVa Mock Trial placed both its team in the top-ten at an invitational tournament, grabbing the fourth place and ninth place spots at this past weekend�s Columbia University Big Apple Invitational Tournament.

Team 972 faced defending national champion UCLA in the first round, and after a hard-fought competition moved onto rounds against Yale and two squads from Columbia University. After narrowly dropping two ballots to UCLA, 972 went on to sweep the competition in its remaining three rounds. Team 972 finished the weekend with a 6-2 record and a formidable point differential of +68.

Team 973 also faced UCLA at CUBAIT, in addition to teams from NYU, Miami Ohio, and Bellarmine. 973 narrowly split ballots in rounds against Miami and Bellarmine, twice losing ballots by a single point. Nonetheless, team 973 was able to finish the weekend with a 4-4 record and an impressive ninth place finish.

In addition, both Steve Kanjo (973) and Sean Hamidi (972) took home Outstanding Witness awards for their respective performances. For the second time at CUBAIT, Daniel Young (972) won an Outstanding Attorney Award.

UVa now begins preparation for its regional tournament, which will take place in Gettysburg, PA February 11-12.
