Advances both teams to National Championship Tournament in Florida
February 20, 2007 - Mock Trial at UVa continued its impressive performance this season by placing first and third at the inaugural Capital City Regional Tournament. The tournament was hosted by
Mock Trial at UVa at the E. Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse in Washington, D.C., marking the first time that UVa has hosted an AMTA-sanctioned regional event.
Team 972 took home the title of regional champion, finishing with a perfect record of 8-0-0. This was the fourth time this season that 972 has gone undefeated at a tournament and the third time that they finished with an 8-0-0 record (they won the Rhodes Blues City Challenge with a record of 7-0-1). Meanwhile, 973 finished in third place with a record of 6-2-0.
The Capital City Regional was one of only four regional tournaments in the nation to carry three bids to golds, meaning that both 972 and 973 will be advancing directly to the National Championship Tournament, held this year in St. Petersburg, Florida. This is only the second time in the history of
Mock Trial at UVa that the program has advanced two teams to the National Championship.
In addition to team victories, the Capital City Regional also saw some of
Mock Trial at UVa's most impressive individual performances of the season, with a record seven members (exactly half of UVa's competitive roster!) earning individual awards. Winning outstanding attorney awards were Kevin Richards, Shikha Gupta, and Daniel Young, while Alex Boyajian, Eric Green, Jamar Walker, and Paul Wiley all took home outstanding witness awards.
Mock Trial at UVa is excited to travel to sunny Florida to defend its national title in just a few short months. The 2007 National Championship Tournament will be held on the weekend of April 13-15, 2007 and will be hosted by Stetson Law School.smrtovnice
