Mock Trial at UVa Wins Second Straight National Championship
Places both teams in the top ten at St. Petersburg Competition

April 15, 2007 - The Mock Trial at UVa program won its second straight National Championship in St. Petersburg, FL, beating Harvard University in the championship round to finish its most successful season to date. Team 972 entered the final round with an undefeated 8-0-0 record, winning the Vause division after facing tough rounds from Stanford University, The University of Toledo, Columbia University and UCLA. Team 973 finished tied for fifth, finishing 5-3 after hitting the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the University of Texas at Austion, Cornell University and Georgetown University. The first / tied for fifth finish made Mock Trial at UVa one of only two teams in the country to place two teams in the top ten.

That other team? Parker division champion Harvard University, who finished 7-1 and 6-1-1. In the words of National Tournament Director David Nelmark �for the first time in American Mock Trial Association history, the rematch was on.�

After a hard-fought round on the Plaintiff side, Mock Trial at UVa was announced as National Champion following a 2-1-0 decision. Taking home individual awards after the weekend of competition were fourth years Mostafa Abdelkarm (All-American Witness) and Daniel Young (All-American Attorney).

This victory comes as the crowning point to the 2006-2007 season, with Mock Trial at UVa finishing at an overall 99-14-2 - a winning percentage of 87.7 percent. For the summer, competitors look forward to a hard-earned break before attempting the first-ever Mock Trial threepeat. smrtovnice
