Making its first trip to Richmond in two years, VaMT wins its third tournament of the season with a perfect 8-0 record. That same weekend, VaMT also finishes third at NYU's Downtown Invitational Classic after facing the tournament's first (UCLA), second (Harvard), and fourth (UC-Irvine) place teams. Five program members win individual awards. Next stop: regionals.
The Gavel comes home!
VaMT wins its second consecutive tournament of the season at the 8th annual Great American Mock Trial Invitational in Washington, DC. Team 972 wins the tournament with a record of 11-1, with team 973 finishing close behind at fourth. Seven program members win individual awards. Thanks to all of our participants, who came from far and wide to make the tournament a great success.
Three-peat at CUBAIT!
VaMT becomes the only program to win Columbia University's Big Apple Invitational three times by capturing its third straight title. Team N takes first place with a record of 7-1, with Team M finishing tied for fifth. Anya Havriliak, Megan O'Donnell, and Ben Wallace all take home individual awards. Virginia Mock Trial finishes 2nd and 4th at Elon's Carolina Classic!

Two Top Ten Finishes at Nationals!
For the second straight year (and only the third time in program history), both teams finish in the top ten at Nationals. Team Conlin comes 2 points out of 140 from the national final round, splitting +3 -1 with new national champion UCLA in Round 4. Team Belin rallies to finish tied for third, despite +23 -2 and +13 -1 splits. Four members receive All-American awards. Virginia Mock Trial ends 2010-11 ranked #4 and #8 in AMTA's official rankings -- the nation's only program with two teams in the Top 10.
Two Bids to Nationals for the Fifth Straight Year!
Keeping alive the nation's longest active streak, Team 1165 wins the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record and team 1164 finishes tied for second. Seven program members receive individual awards, and team 1165 also wins the Spirit of AMTA award.
Two ORCS Bids!
For the fifth consecutive year, both teams qualify for the AMTA post-season. Team 1165's Emily Laser receives her first career witness award and Megan O'Donnell is named an outstanding attorney on both sides of the case, including a perfect 20 ranks on plaintiff. Team 1164's Ben Wallace receives his fourth consecutive outstanding attorney award and Rohan Sebastian earns witness awards in both sides. Full results coming soon on the Competition page.Â
Downtown Champions!
Team 1164 wins VaMT's first tournament of the spring and the program's first-ever Downtown Invitational Classic in New York City. Ben Wallace earns his third consecutive attorney award by being named the tournament's Best Defense Opener. Thanks to UCLA, Columbia, George Washington, Yale, and Cal-Berkeley for five great rounds and to NYU for a fantastic tournament. Results coming to the Competition page.
Semester Starts Strong In Tennessee!
Team 1165 finishes fifth at Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic. Megan O'Donnell and Amanda Swanson each receive their second attorney award of the season. Full results coming soon to the Competition page.
Beach Party Runner-Up!
Virginia Mock Trial wraps up its fall invitational season by making its first West Coast trip since 2006. After prevailing in single-elimination rounds against USC, Rhodes, and Furman, the program fell 3-1 to defending national champion NYU in the tournament's final round. Third year Ben Wallace wins his third outstanding attorney award of the season. Full results available on the Competition page.
Two top five finishes at GAMTI!
Team 973 finishes second and Team 972 finishes fourth, giving Virginia Mock Trial two top five performances at GAMTI for the first time since Fall 2006. Anya Havriliak wins her second consecutive witness award of the season, Ben Wallace wins his second consecutive attorney award at GAMTI, and second-year Megan O'Donnell and first-year Amanda Swanson both win their first career attorney awards. VaMT wins second consecutive CUBAIT!
Virginia Mock Trial goes 8-0 and wins its second tournament of the 2010-11 season in New York City. Following the success at the Carolina Classic the previous weekend, 3 different individuals take home individual awards as well. First-year Liam McCabe and second-year Anya Havriliak bring home witness awards and Marcy Coburn wins her first career attorney award with a perfect 20 ranks. Virginia Mock Trial wins Carolina Classic!
Ben Wallace takes home his fifth career individual award by being named an outstanding attorney. Greg Siegel wins both his fifth attorney award and his first-ever witness award by earning 19 ranks on both sides of the case. Full results at the Competition page.
UVA v. NYU from Memphis -- DVD now for sale!
Because there is no video of the 2010 national championship trial, AMTA is selling a video of the Round 3 matchup between Virginia A and NYU A. The teams were both 4-0 at the time, and the round resulted in a split. NYU went on to win the Bardog Division and the national championship trial. Virginia A split its fourth round with then-defending national champion Northwood A and finished third in the Bardog Division.

Virginia Mock Trial wraps up one of its most successful seasons ever by being the only program in the country to earn two top-five finishes in a nationals division.
Team 1116 finishes third with a record of 6-2, having faced the toughest schedule in the division (CS: 20.5) and suffering its only losses in split ballots with defending champion Northwood A and new champion NYU A. Team 1117 finishes fifth at 5-2-1, suffering its only losses to NYU A. Team 1117's record and finish are the highest by a B team at nationals in VaMT history. Rohan Sebastian earns his sixth career witness award (but first All-American) and Max Kirby earns his first-ever attorney award.
Virginia Mock Trial finishes the 2009-10 season having won 6 of the 10 tournaments it attended and never having finished lower than 3rd at any tournament.

For the second straight tournament, Virginia finishes first and second! With the results, both teams qualify for the National Championships, for the fourth consecutive year. Team 1116 finishes with seven wins and a tie, and team 1117 finishes 6-1-1. 1116 captains Greg Siegel and Juliana Yee both bring home attorney awards, and Rohan Sebastian takes his first witness award since his return.

Two bids to St. Paul!
Virginia Mock Trial has its first 16-0 weekend since the fall of 2006, with both teams finishing 8-0 and advancing to the next level of competition in St. Paul, MN. 1117 captain Anya Havriliak wins her second-straight outstanding attorney award. 1116 wins four individual awards, with Greg Siegel and Ben Wallace winning attorney awards and Paul Wiley and Juliana Yee winning witness awards. Juliana has now won more indivdiual awards than anyone else in program history.

Semester starts strong in New York!
Team 1117 wins CUBAIT over the weekend, with 1116 finishing 1st at NYU's Downtown Invitational Classic after 4 rounds, then falling to Furman in the Mataresse Memorial Championship Round. 1117 captains Anya Havriliak and Alison Burton bring home outstanding attorney awards, and Juliana Yee is named to the "DIC" All-Star team. The whole Virginia program sends its condolences to Richmond's Bill Cable, Bill Cable's right kneecap, and any New Zealand All-Blacks player who may have observed the Haka gone wrong.
The New York weekend concludes Virginia's invitational season. One of the best in the program's history, the program won 4 invitationals, with 8 top 3 finishes at seven tournaments. Check back at the end of February for Regionals results.

The second Virginia Mock Trial team in action this weekend also took home some hardware, finishing third at Pittsburgh's Steel City Invitational. Juliana Yee win both attorney and witness awards, and Paul Wiley earns a perfect 20 ranks as an attorney on the defense. After 6 top five finishes in 6 chances, Virginia Mock Trial is looking forward to hosting GAMTI in two weeks.
Virginia Mock Trial wins Bellarmine's Derby Challenge for the second straight year!
Team M wins Virginia Mock Trial's second title of the season and successfully repeats its victory at the 2008 Derby Challenge. Congratulations to new member Max Kirby for taking home the Most Outstanding Witness Award, won last year by fourth-year member Juliana Yee. Special thanks to new member Megan O'Donnell for her truly heroic role in taking on a new witness role and a new direct less than 48 hours before the start of the tournament.
