This past weekend, VaMT hosted the Twentieth Annual Great American Mock Trial Invitational! The 24-team field had the highest percentage of Nationals returners of any fall invitational. VaMT won the tournament for the second year in a row, holding onto the big gavel for another year! In addition, captains Ansley Skipper and Ethan Marx won individual awards. This marks VaMT's third tournament win of the fall season heading into Winter Break! Next up: Pancakes!!

This past weekend, VaMT travelled to Columbia, SC to compete at USC's Soda City Invitational. Team Wahoo won the tournament, going 7-0, and Team Cavalier finished with a winning record of 4-3-1. Last weekend, VaMT traveled to Durham, NC for Duke's annual Tobacco Road invitational. Team Wahoo finished in 4th place with a record of 6-2, and Team Cavalier finished with a record of 4-3-1, and two program members won their first individual awards. Next stop: Columbia, SC!

This past month, VaMT competed at its first tournament of the year in Baltimore, MD. Team Wahoo placed 1st with a record of 7-1 and Team Cavalier finished with a solid record of 4-4. Micah Cerynik, Dalton Haydel, and Trevor McMillan each won their first awards, and Lydia Matthews won her first attorney award. Next up: the Tobacco Road Invitational in Durham, NC!

VaMT finishes its season with a 3rd place finish at the National Championship Tournament in Philadelphia, continuing our streak of finishing in the top 10 in the nation. And although our season didn't end *quite* as well as our basketball team's, there's still so much to celebrate after this year.

There isn't enough space in one post to thank everyone that deserves to be thanked, but we're going to try. To our coaches, thank you for taking time away from your own lives and jobs to make us into better speakers and better people. To our families, thank you for listening to us talk incessantly about this really random and weird activity. And to our graduating seniors (Liam Sabrina Natalia Deniz), there are no words that can adequately express what you four mean to us. Thank you for everything.

UVA v. NYU from Memphis -- DVD now for sale!

Because there is no video of the 2010 national championship trial, AMTA is selling a video of the Round 3 matchup between Virginia A and NYU A. The teams were both 4-0 at the time, and the round resulted in a split. NYU went on to win the Bardog Division and the national championship trial. Virginia A split its fourth round with then-defending national champion Northwood A and finished third in the Bardog Division.

Virginia Mock Trial wraps up one of its most successful seasons ever by being the only program in the country to earn two top-five finishes in a nationals division.

Team 1116 finishes third with a record of 6-2, having faced the toughest schedule in the division (CS: 20.5) and suffering its only losses in split ballots with defending champion Northwood A and new champion NYU A. Team 1117 finishes fifth at 5-2-1, suffering its only losses to NYU A. Team 1117's record and finish are the highest by a B team at nationals in VaMT history. Rohan Sebastian earns his sixth career witness award (but first All-American) and Max Kirby earns his first-ever attorney award.

Virginia Mock Trial finishes the 2009-10 season having won 6 of the 10 tournaments it attended and never having finished lower than 3rd at any tournament.

Team 1116 finishes with seven wins and a tie, and team 1117 finishes 6-1-1. 1116 captains Greg Siegel and Juliana Yee both bring home attorney awards, and Rohan Sebastian takes his first witness award since his return.

Two bids to St. Paul!

Virginia Mock Trial has its first 16-0 weekend since the fall of 2006, with both teams finishing 8-0 and advancing to the next level of competition in St. Paul, MN. 1117 captain Anya Havriliak wins her second-straight outstanding attorney award. 1116 wins four individual awards, with Greg Siegel and Ben Wallace winning attorney awards and Paul Wiley and Juliana Yee winning witness awards. Juliana has now won more indivdiual awards than anyone else in program history.

Semester starts strong in New York!

Team 1117 wins CUBAIT over the weekend, with 1116 finishing 1st at NYU's Downtown Invitational Classic after 4 rounds, then falling to Furman in the Mataresse Memorial Championship Round. 1117 captains Anya Havriliak and Alison Burton bring home outstanding attorney awards, and Juliana Yee is named to the "DIC" All-Star team. The whole Virginia program sends its condolences to Richmond's Bill Cable, Bill Cable's right kneecap, and any New Zealand All-Blacks player who may have observed the Haka gone wrong.

The New York weekend concludes Virginia's invitational season. One of the best in the program's history, the program won 4 invitationals, with 8 top 3 finishes at seven tournaments. Check back at the end of February for Regionals results.

The second Virginia Mock Trial team in action this weekend also took home some hardware, finishing third at Pittsburgh's Steel City Invitational. Juliana Yee win both attorney and witness awards, and Paul Wiley earns a perfect 20 ranks as an attorney on the defense. After 6 top five finishes in 6 chances, Virginia Mock Trial is looking forward to hosting GAMTI in two weeks.

Virginia Mock Trial wins Bellarmine's Derby Challenge for the second straight year!

Team M wins Virginia Mock Trial's second title of the season and successfully repeats its victory at the 2008 Derby Challenge. Congratulations to new member Max Kirby for taking home the Most Outstanding Witness Award, won last year by fourth-year member Juliana Yee. Special thanks to new member Megan O'Donnell for her truly heroic role in taking on a new witness role and a new direct less than 48 hours before the start of the tournament.
