Virginia Mock Trial wins its fourth national championship in the Windy City of Chicago! Team 1123 had the best record through four rounds, and won 8.5 out of 9 ballots in the Final Round! Three program members--including two first years -- receive individual awards. See everyone next fall!
This past weekend, VaMT hosted the Twentieth Annual Great American Mock Trial Invitational! The 24-team field had the highest percentage of Nationals returners of any fall invitational. VaMT won the tournament for the second year in a row, holding onto the big gavel for another year! In addition, captains Ansley Skipper and Ethan Marx won individual awards. This marks VaMT's third tournament win of the fall season heading into Winter Break! Next up: Pancakes!!
This past weekend, VaMT travelled to Columbia, SC to compete at USC's Soda City Invitational. Team Wahoo won the tournament, going 7-0, and Team Cavalier finished with a winning record of 4-3-1. Additionally, the program took home 6 individual awards! Next up: the 20th Annual GAMTI... back in Washington, DC!
Last weekend, VaMT traveled to Durham, NC for Duke's annual Tobacco Road invitational. Team Wahoo finished in 4th place with a record of 6-2, and Team Cavalier finished with a record of 4-3-1, and two program members won their first individual awards. Next stop: Columbia, SC!
This past month, VaMT competed at its first tournament of the year in Baltimore, MD. Team Wahoo placed 1st with a record of 7-1 and Team Cavalier finished with a solid record of 4-4. Micah Cerynik, Dalton Haydel, and Trevor McMillan each won their first awards, and Lydia Matthews won her first attorney award. Next up: the Tobacco Road Invitational in Durham, NC!
This September, VaMT welcomed seven new members to the program: Aahil (Henrico, VA), Bry (Brick, NJ), Dalton (New Orleans, LA), Faith (Denver, CO), Hovsep (Fairfax, VA), Je Young (Seongnam, South Korea), and Trevor (Salt Lake City, UT). We are excited for a great year!
VaMT finishes the season tied for second in their division at Nationals! This season was a huge success, with 3 tournament wins, 25 individual awards (bringing the grand total to 400!), and 972 being the only team in the country to go undefeated through Regionals and ORCS.
The NCT Case is here! AMTA has released Robin Skye v. Aubrey Gold, and VaMT is ready to get to work. It's almost time to head to Memphis, and VaMT couldn't be more excited!
VaMT is headed back to NCT! For the 20th(!) year in a row, Virginia Mock Trial has qualified a team to the National Championship Tournament! Team 1184 had the best record at the tournament, going 7-0-1, and one program member won an individual award. Next stop, Memphis!
Thanks to all of the teams who came out to DC for the Sixteenth Great American Mock Trial Invitational. It is always a blast hosting this tournament and seeing all of the incredible teams from around the country. Starting the year off with a bang!
VaMT killed it in Williamsburg this weekend at William & Mary's Colonial Classic Invitational! Team Blue finished in 5th place with a record of 5-3, and Team Orange wins the tournament with a perfect record of 8-0. Five program members receive individual awards.

VaMT finishes its season with a 3rd place finish at the National Championship Tournament in Philadelphia, continuing our streak of finishing in the top 10 in the nation. And although our season didn't end *quite* as well as our basketball team's, there's still so much to celebrate after this year.
There isn't enough space in one post to thank everyone that deserves to be thanked, but we're going to try. To our coaches, thank you for taking time away from your own lives and jobs to make us into better speakers and better people. To our families, thank you for listening to us talk incessantly about this really random and weird activity. And to our graduating seniors (Liam Sabrina Natalia Deniz), there are no words that can adequately express what you four mean to us. Thank you for everything.

Two Bids to ORCS!
For the 10th year in a row, VaMT earns two bids to the second round of AMTA's competitive season. Our two teams went a combined 14-2 this weekend, and we had three program members who won individual awards! Next stop - Richmond!

VaMT wins its fourth consecutive tournament as team 1002 takes first place at Georgia Tech’s Ramblin’ Wreck Invitational!!! Team 1001 takes 5th place, and we have one individual award winner. Thanks to Georgia Tech for an awesome weekend!
And VaMT rounds out the fall season with our third tournament victory of the year - going 10-2 at our very own Great American Mock Trial Invitational!!! A humongous thanks to all the teams who traveled to DC to compete with us, as well as to our incredible tournament directors!!!

This weekend in Richmond, both program teams advanced to the second stage of American Mock Trial Association competition for the 12th straight year. Team 1114 finishes with the tournament's best record of 8-0 (and a +133 point differential), with Team 1113 securing a bid with a record of 6-2. Next stop: Wilmington!
Success in January!
Our teams took on different cities this weekend. Congratulations to team 1113 on finishing 6th at NYU's Downtown Invitational Classic and to team 1114 on finishing 2nd at Georgetown's Hilltop Invitational Tournament. A special congrats to our three members who received individual awards.

After a rematch of last year's final round, Virginia Mock Trial wins its third national championship in the City of Angels. Team 1172 also ties for fourth place its division, making this the first time in six years that both program teams finished in the national top ten. Great weekend in DC!
VaMT's 2012-13 season ends with a second-place division finish at Nationals, just half a ballot behind division-winner Rhodes College. Will Cadigan earns his second consecutive witness award and first year Mackenzie Austin's first award ever makes her an All-American Witness. The program also met Justice Elena Kagan and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano -- you can see photos on our Facebook page.
Virginia Mock Trial qualifies two teams for nationals. Team 972 finishes with the tournament's best record, and Team 973 becomes the youngest B-team in program history to make it all the way to the end. Four program members win individual awards. Looking forward to seeing folks in Washington, DC!

Top Ten Finish at Nationals!
For the third straight year, Virginia Mock Trial finishes the season by finishing in the top 10 at the National Championship Tournament. Second-year Liam McCabe also becomes the 7th different competitor to be named an All-American during that same span. VaMT wins its fifth tournament of the season, its fourth consecutive ORCS, and advances to the National Championship Tournament for the ninth consecutive year. Spider champions!
Making its first trip to Richmond in two years, VaMT wins its third tournament of the season with a perfect 8-0 record. That same weekend, VaMT also finishes third at NYU's Downtown Invitational Classic after facing the tournament's first (UCLA), second (Harvard), and fourth (UC-Irvine) place teams. Five program members win individual awards. Next stop: regionals.
The Gavel comes home!
VaMT wins its second consecutive tournament of the season at the 8th annual Great American Mock Trial Invitational in Washington, DC. Team 972 wins the tournament with a record of 11-1, with team 973 finishing close behind at fourth. Seven program members win individual awards. Thanks to all of our participants, who came from far and wide to make the tournament a great success.
Three-peat at CUBAIT!
VaMT becomes the only program to win Columbia University's Big Apple Invitational three times by capturing its third straight title. Team N takes first place with a record of 7-1, with Team M finishing tied for fifth. Anya Havriliak, Megan O'Donnell, and Ben Wallace all take home individual awards. Two Top Ten Finishes at Nationals!
For the second straight year (and only the third time in program history), both teams finish in the top ten at Nationals. Team Conlin comes 2 points out of 140 from the national final round, splitting +3 -1 with new national champion UCLA in Round 4. Team Belin rallies to finish tied for third, despite +23 -2 and +13 -1 splits. Four members receive All-American awards. Virginia Mock Trial ends 2010-11 ranked #4 and #8 in AMTA's official rankings -- the nation's only program with two teams in the Top 10.
Two Bids to Nationals for the Fifth Straight Year!
Keeping alive the nation's longest active streak, Team 1165 wins the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record and team 1164 finishes tied for second. Seven program members receive individual awards, and team 1165 also wins the Spirit of AMTA award.
Two ORCS Bids!
For the fifth consecutive year, both teams qualify for the AMTA post-season. Team 1165's Emily Laser receives her first career witness award and Megan O'Donnell is named an outstanding attorney on both sides of the case, including a perfect 20 ranks on plaintiff. Team 1164's Ben Wallace receives his fourth consecutive outstanding attorney award and Rohan Sebastian earns witness awards in both sides. Full results coming soon on the Competition page.Â
Semester Starts Strong In Tennessee!
Team 1165 finishes fifth at Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic. Megan O'Donnell and Amanda Swanson each receive their second attorney award of the season. Full results coming soon to the Competition page.
Downtown Champions!
Team 1164 wins VaMT's first tournament of the spring and the program's first-ever Downtown Invitational Classic in New York City. Ben Wallace earns his third consecutive attorney award by being named the tournament's Best Defense Opener. Thanks to UCLA, Columbia, George Washington, Yale, and Cal-Berkeley for five great rounds and to NYU for a fantastic tournament. Results coming to the Competition page.
Beach Party Runner-Up!
Virginia Mock Trial wraps up its fall invitational season by making its first West Coast trip since 2006. After prevailing in single-elimination rounds against USC, Rhodes, and Furman, the program fell 3-1 to defending national champion NYU in the tournament's final round. Team 973 finishes second and Team 972 finishes fourth, giving Virginia Mock Trial two top five performances at GAMTI for the first time since Fall 2006. Virginia Mock Trial goes 8-0 and wins its second tournament of the 2010-11 season in New York City. Following the success at the Carolina Classic the previous weekend, 3 different individuals take home individual awards as well. First-year Liam McCabe and second-year Anya Havriliak bring home witness awards and Marcy Coburn wins her first career attorney award with a perfect 20 ranks. Ben Wallace takes home his fifth career individual award by being named an outstanding attorney. Greg Siegel wins both his fifth attorney award and his first-ever witness award by earning 19 ranks on both sides of the case. Full results at the Competition page.
UVA v. NYU from Memphis -- DVD now for sale!
Because there is no video of the 2010 national championship trial, AMTA is selling a video of the Round 3 matchup between Virginia A and NYU A. The teams were both 4-0 at the time, and the round resulted in a split. NYU went on to win the Bardog Division and the national championship trial. Virginia A split its fourth round with then-defending national champion Northwood A and finished third in the Bardog Division.

Virginia Mock Trial wraps up one of its most successful seasons ever by being the only program in the country to earn two top-five finishes in a nationals division.
Team 1116 finishes third with a record of 6-2, having faced the toughest schedule in the division (CS: 20.5) and suffering its only losses in split ballots with defending champion Northwood A and new champion NYU A. Team 1117 finishes fifth at 5-2-1, suffering its only losses to NYU A. Team 1117's record and finish are the highest by a B team at nationals in VaMT history. Rohan Sebastian earns his sixth career witness award (but first All-American) and Max Kirby earns his first-ever attorney award.
Virginia Mock Trial finishes the 2009-10 season having won 6 of the 10 tournaments it attended and never having finished lower than 3rd at any tournament.
All of Virginia Mock Trial Memphis Bound!
For the second straight tournament, Virginia finishes first and second! With the results, both teams qualify for the National Championships, for the fourth consecutive year. Team 1116 finishes with seven wins and a tie, and team 1117 finishes 6-1-1. 1116 captains Greg Siegel and Juliana Yee both bring home attorney awards, and Rohan Sebastian takes his first witness award since his return.

Two bids to St. Paul!
Virginia Mock Trial has its first 16-0 weekend since the fall of 2006, with both teams finishing 8-0 and advancing to the next level of competition in St. Paul, MN. 1117 captain Anya Havriliak wins her second-straight outstanding attorney award. 1116 wins four individual awards, with Greg Siegel and Ben Wallace winning attorney awards and Paul Wiley and Juliana Yee winning witness awards. Juliana has now won more indivdiual awards than anyone else in program history.

Semester starts strong in New York!
Team 1117 wins CUBAIT over the weekend, with 1116 finishing 1st at NYU's Downtown Invitational Classic after 4 rounds, then falling to Furman in the Mataresse Memorial Championship Round. 1117 captains Anya Havriliak and Alison Burton bring home outstanding attorney awards, and Juliana Yee is named to the "DIC" All-Star team. The whole Virginia program sends its condolences to Richmond's Bill Cable, Bill Cable's right kneecap, and any New Zealand All-Blacks player who may have observed the Haka gone wrong.
The New York weekend concludes Virginia's invitational season. One of the best in the program's history, the program won 4 invitationals, with 8 top 3 finishes at seven tournaments. Check back at the end of February for Regionals results.

Team 1116 wins Virginia Mock Trial's third title of the season at GAMTI '09. Juliana Yee, Paul Wiley, and Ben Wallace all earn individual awards. Virginia Mock Trial finishes 3rd at Steel City Invitational!
The second Virginia Mock Trial team in action this weekend also took home some hardware, finishing third at Pittsburgh's Steel City Invitational. Juliana Yee win both attorney and witness awards, and Paul Wiley earns a perfect 20 ranks as an attorney on the defense. After 6 top five finishes in 6 chances, Virginia Mock Trial is looking forward to hosting GAMTI in two weeks.
Virginia Mock Trial wins Bellarmine's Derby Challenge for the second straight year!
Team M wins Virginia Mock Trial's second title of the season and successfully repeats its victory at the 2008 Derby Challenge. Congratulations to new member Max Kirby for taking home the Most Outstanding Witness Award, won last year by fourth-year member Juliana Yee. Special thanks to new member Megan O'Donnell for her truly heroic role in taking on a new witness role and a new direct less than 48 hours before the start of the tournament.

Team N finishes with a perfect 8-0, and Team M finishes tied for fifth. Juliana Yee earns a perfect 20 ranks as an attorney, and Greg Siegel also takes home an attorney award. At the 25th AMTA National Championship Tournament, Michelle Chmielewski brings home her first All-American Attorney award. As two-time national champions, Virginia Mock Trial extends hearty congratulations to the 2008-09 National Champions, the Timberwolves of Northwood University.

Interested in trying out for the two-time National Championship mock trial team? Then come find us at the Activities Fair on Saturday, September 1 from 3 PM to 7 PM (postponed from August 26) around Newcomb Hall. Current UVa Mock Trial members will be there to talk about the program and answer any questions you may have. Then, come to an info session! On Sunday, September 2 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm members of UVa Mock Trial will be making presentations in Wilson Hall Room 402 about Mock Trial and tryouts.
